The Winery Tour is about three things that are great about New Zealand: our music, our wine and our scenery. From its beginning in 2007, The Winery Tour has celebrated this country and its people. It is 100% New Zealand.
The Winery Tour was conceived in summer 2006 when promoters Brent Eccles and Campbell Smith were looking for a venue in Nelson for a Bic Runga national tour stop. On the advice of locals they booked Neudorf Vineyards in Upper Moutere for an outdoor show. It was a huge success. A magical performance by one of New Zealand’s greatest songwriters in a stunning location. The following summer the promoters announced the first national Winery Tour. They found wineries and vineyards that had the right “feel”, beautiful locations that they thought would complement live music and, of course, produced great wines, and winery owners who understood and were excited by the idea.
Expect to see Spitfires, Kittyhawks, Mustangs, and a selection of single seater and dual seater jets … The Royal New Zealand Air Force will be here, so too the Sports Aviation Association who will provide a fascinating display of the more unusual and also aerobatic aircraft together with a large static display. Other surprises are also in the pipeline including the car versus plane speed race which has captivated audiences at previous shows – but this time we’re going to introduce a new spectacular twist!
Military re-enactors also promise to create a fantastic spectacle giving rise to a crescendo of activity before the day is out.
Rides in all types of aircraft will be available before, during and after the show – including warbird fighters, sports machines and helicopters, so be sure to book your favourite plane for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
More than just an Airshow, Classics of the Sky doubles as a family festival. For 2014, all the popular and proven vendors will be back offering sideshows, food and beverage, and plenty of activities for your children’s entertainment.
